about the course
Since its port opening in 1859, the latest culture from overseas has always been coming into Yokohama, the gateway to and from overseas.
Jazz music, first recorded in the US in 1917, also travelled to Yokohama and stayed there.
A number of jazz bars have lined the streets of this city since then. This time we have chosen four out of many excellent bars.
Good food and cocktails. Let your body swing to the beautiful sounds of Jazz woven with history.
It’s not easy, but it’s definitely worth going!!!
1.JR Kannai Station South Exit
Your journey starts here at Kannai station.
We’ll take you on a journey to search for a new aspect of Yokohama!
〒231-0048 1 Horaicho, Nakaku, Yokohama-shi, Kanagawa-ken
JR Negishi Line, Keihin Tohoku Line, Yokohama Line
A two storey structure with the restaurant where you can enjoy live jazz and a jazz bar with classical vibe.
Depending on the day’s mood, you can choose from the restaurant upstairs and the bar downstairs.
This is Kannai’s most famous spot.
Let’s get in. Oops, quite a gap. It’s just one stair, but it’s quite a gap, which makes it hard to get in.
But it’s another world once you get in. Two staff members dressed in their waistcoats. I place an order to the lady, which she passes on to the cool mature man in the dimness.
I can hear gentle sounds of jazz from upstairs.
Unfortunately, I can’t go up there, but the air surely comes down through the spiral staircase with the vibe. Listening to the predecessor’s old tales makes me feel like the old Yokohama is back here, and it brings me back to the time when the BayStars were Yokohama Taiyo Whales. Have the courage to ask someone to push you from behind, wheelchair users!

This bar has as many as 40000 vinyls!
Indulge yourself in all kinds of music and cocktails.
This bar also has a gap at the entrance.
There’s a curry restaurant on the left. It smells quite good.
Now, Showers is upstairs with the elevator after climbing one stair of a gap.
The elevator is small, but I managed to squeeze in.
There’s a door as the elevator opens. Mmm, can I get in?? I made it!!
There’s a turntable in front of me. I guess I can expect some good sounds!
The view outside is reflected with the lights indoors, and it gives out a nice vibe! Both ladies and gentlemen give out a very nice vibe!
They’ve collected as many as 40000 vinyls! Many of them are Japanese.

An old bar since 1972.
Indulge yourself in the mature atmosphere of the venue where you can enjoy live jazz every night.
This is my second time here. While I was teaching a bit at a university, I had a guy join me and had him talk with me.
One of his legs is missing from below the knee. Well, well, he plays the double bass really well.
The bar is designed like the hull of a ship cut apart. There’s a gap both outside and inside the bar, but you’d better go there.
Booze and snacks taste excellent if you have them and listen to jazz at the same time!
